You've most likely heard of the Sanken COS11D and DPA debate...

 

Well, I personally prefer not to worry too much about getting the "ultimate" lav mic. It's true that the above mentioned lav mics have special properties that make it much easier for post-production to mix, but... Is it really worth the cost?

 

It depends what kinds of sets you find yourself working on.

 

I mostly do corporate interviews and indie features/shorts. That being said, I try to keep my kit simple.

 

I absolutely love the Deity W.Lav Pro. It's one of the closest things you'll get to the COS11D (they're basically the same shape and size), but the sound is like 80% the same.

 

They're affordable and waterproof, which is something not guaranteed by Sanken.

 

I also have a few Tentacle Audio lav mics that are essentially Sennheiser ME2 look-alikes. However, they sound 2x better and cost 2x less.
